Quinta Grande

Created on 24 July 1848 on the western edge of the municipality: 3.89 km², 1,941 inhabitants and 825 dwellings at the 2021 census. The land changed name often with its owners — Quinta do Cabo Girão in 1501, then the quintas of Manuel de Noronha, D. Maria de Ataíde, Luís de Noronha, Fernão de Noronha, dos Padres, da Companhia, da Vera Cruz — before keeping Quinta Grande, a reference to the size of the estate in Jesuit times. The parish has stayed agricultural. Its calendar of feasts is dense: Nossa Senhora dos Remédios and the Santíssimo Sacramento in September, Senhor da Vera Cruz in May, the Espírito Santo in June, Nossa Senhora de Fátima on 13 May and 13 October, popular marches and spring arrangements on 23 June.
