  • 🌿 Nature

    Jardim de Santa Luzia

Thirteen thousand six hundred square metres of garden in the city centre, on the site of the former Fábrica de Açúcar do Torreão, known as Engenho do Hinton. The industrial chimney and some machinery remain: what is left of Madeira's sugar industry. The park is divided into five gardens — Laurissilva, terraces, water, tropical and amphitheatre — designed by landscape architect Luís Paulo Ribeiro (TOPIARIS) and given an honourable mention in the national landscape architecture award, public spaces category.

  • 🔭 Viewpoint

    Miradouro de Santa Luzia

At 170 m above sea level, in the parish of Imaculado Coração de Maria, created on 26 November 1954: the population had grown with the modernisation of Funchal after the 1940s, when international tourism, new roads and hotels pushed residents up the hillsides. It is reached by Rua da Levada de Santa Luzia. A wide view over the city, from the coast to the mountains, and a few benches to sit on.
