Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Luz (Gaula)

The seat of the parish of Gaula, built in the mid-eighteenth century on the rubble of the old church, destroyed in the 1848 earthquake. It keeps a historic bell of about 120 kg given by King João V and a set of liturgical objects including a fifteenth-century processional cross. The feasts of Nossa Senhora da Luz are held here every September and draw people from all over the island.

    Miradouro da Contenda

At Contenda, in the parish of Gaula (Santa Cruz), halfway between sea and mountain in a quiet village known for making Madeira embroidery, this green-fringed lookout has benches for contemplating Ponta de São Lourenço, the parish of Santa Cruz with its Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport and, on clear days, the Desertas.
