Miradouro da Boca da Corrida

Above 1,000 m in the parish of Jardim da Serra, Boca da Corrida is a quiet pass surrounded by vegetation, favoured by locals for a contemplative stroll. The eye is drawn to the Curral das Freiras valley — whose name recalls the nuns of the Santa Clara convent who took refuge here during the pirate attack on Funchal in the 16th century — to Eira do Serrado and to the grandeur of the central massif. It is the start of the Caminho Real da Encumeada (PR 12), open in 2026 as far as km 3.5.
