Capela de Santa Isabel (Santa Cruz)

🏘️ Santa Cruz · Santa Cruz

A small chapel on Rua Irmã Wilson, in the centre of Santa Cruz, commissioned in 1562 by the merchant André Gonçalves and finished a few years later. A century on it was in ruins; the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Santa Cruz, to which it is attached, funded its rebuilding. The architecture is plain, but the portal is Gothic and the high altar in gilded carving is worth the stop.
