One of the region's oldest levadas, under centuries-old tis: 7.2 km from Fanal (ER 209) to Curral Falso (same road), about 3 h, moderate, between 840 and 1,090 m. The start enjoys the calm of Fanal, a Rest and Quiet Reserve of the Parque Natural da Madeira, with its centuries-old tils, some of them older than the island's discovery. The Levada dos Cedros, built in the 17th century, rises from the springs of Lombo do Cedro at 1,000 m; it is dug straight into the hillside soil and lined only where the ground crumbles. The path sinks into the native Laurissilva, where trees reach 30 to 40 m, follows the steep right bank of the Ribeira da Janela and ends at Curral Falso, from where PR 15 drops to the village. Total shade, damp and slippery ground: good shoes. Two cars or a taxi to link the ends.
