The levada of tunnels and waterfalls in São Vicente: 3.9 km from Ginjas (Fajã da Ama) to the Ribeira do Inferno and 3.9 km back, about 3:30, moderate, almost flat between 600 and 630 m. You follow the walkway of the Levada Fajã do Rodrigues, also called Levada Fajã da Ama, which takes its water from the bed of the Ribeira do Inferno and carries it over ridges and small valleys to the fields of São Vicente. The exotic forest of the start gives way to dense Laurissilva; streams and waterfalls keep everything damp and delight photographers. Tunnels are frequent — head torch and waterproof jacket essential, the roof drips. In places the view opens onto the whole São Vicente valley. Return the same way.

Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário (São Vicente)

Built in the seventeenth century by the Caldeira family beside an older chapel, it became in 1960 the seat of the new parish of Rosário. Devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary spread widely in the Region in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and this church is one of its great examples. The front is Mannerist in structure; the longitudinal plan holds three naves divided by round arches. Inside, the ceiling carries a rendering of Our Lady of the Rosary and the altarpiece, from the late eighteenth century, marks the passage from Rococo to Neoclassical.
