Serragem da Achadinha

The only working water sawmill left on the island, at Achadinha, in the parish of São Jorge. You can watch the water-driven saws and the drive wheel at work: the north coast was covered with trees, and without a sawing mechanism the resource stayed unusable. DRAC classified it a Monument of Local Value in 1998. The São Jorge watermill, the last working one on the island, stands a few dozen metres away.
