Parque Florestal do Pico das Pedras

On the ER 218 between Santana and the Achada do Teixeira plateau — from which you climb Pico Ruivo — a park where the natural forest (Madeira cedars, tils, pau-branco, folhados) meets remarkable exotics: sequoias, Douglas firs and copper beeches, for educational purposes. Chaffinch, firecrest, trocaz pigeon and grey wagtail; tables, fountains, fireplaces and toilets, a forestry post, and the Pico das Pedras nursery, which produces a large share of the native and exotic seedlings used to reforest Madeira's mountains. The "Um caminho para todos" path (PR 9.1) links it to Queimadas. Free parking, paid toilets.
