Núcleo Museológico Rota da Cal (São Vicente)

🏘️ São Vicente · São Vicente · Cascalho

At Sítio dos Lameiros, on the heights of São Vicente, the lime museum tells of an activity that counted in the municipality's history: over about 12,000 m², two limestone quarries, a lime kiln, fossils more than five million years old and the terraces, levadas and hayloft that supported production. A thirty-minute trail links the quarries to the museum — the one the kiln workers took with wood, stone and water — and the exhibition explains the whole process, from extraction to firing and the uses of lime. Listed as regional public-interest heritage in 2005.
