The accessible version of the Levada do Caldeirão Verde. Under the "Um caminho para todos" label, this section was adapted so that people with reduced mobility or visual impairment can also walk in direct contact with the forest: about 2 km along the levada's walkway between the Queimadas and Pico das Pedras forest parks, in the municipality of Santana, in 45 minutes, almost flat (870 – 890 m) — hence the "easy" grade used here. You follow a transition edge between Madeira's natural forest, the Laurissilva listed as World Heritage by UNESCO in December 1999, and the exotic forest planted by people. At Queimadas, the Casa das Tradições Madeirenses keeps the original features of Santana's houses, thatched roof included, with a collection on everyday life and old customs. Queimadas car park charged at €2 per hour.

    Parque Florestal das Queimadas

Above Santana, one of the island's most visited forest parks, by visitors and residents alike, for its scenery and biodiversity: tils, pau-branco, centuries-old heaths, folhados and uveiras of the Laurissilva, mixed with Madeira cedars, cryptomerias and copper beeches; the endemic chaffinch, firecrest and trocaz pigeon, grey wagtail and buzzard. The Casa de Abrigo das Queimadas, with the thatched roof of Santana's houses, has become the "Casa das Tradições Madeirenses". Start of PR 9 Levada do Caldeirão Verde and of the accessible PR 9.1 to Pico das Pedras; picnic area, restaurant-café, shop, bird hide, paid parking and toilets.

    Miradouro das Empenas

On the road climbing to Achada do Teixeira, just past Picarouto, at the forks of the Santana mountains. The view runs along much of the east coast, from the parish of São Jorge to Ponta de São Lourenço, the island's eastern tip; on clear days Porto Santo shows up to the north-east. The access road is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

    Miradouro do Picarouto

Inside the Pico das Pedras Forest Park, on the Estrada Regional 218 linking the city of Santana to the Achada do Teixeira plateau. The panorama stretches from São Jorge to Ponta de São Lourenço, with Penha d'Águia (about 600 m) marking the boundary between Santana and Machico; on the other side stands the central mountain massif, part of the Region's Network of Natural Monuments. The road is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

    Miradouro da Cova da Roda

Access is not the easiest: you reach it on foot along a cobbled way, one of the first roads that linked Funchal, on the south coast, to Santana, on the north. The reward is a wide panorama over the ragged outline of the north coast, dominated by Penha d'Águia (about 600 m), the boundary between Santana and Machico, with Ponta de São Lourenço in the distance.
